2 cups coconut oil
1
cup Epsom Salt
20
drops Lavender and Lime
Honey-Kissed
Lip Balm
1
cup sweet almond oil (I use coconut oil)
½
cup beeswax
2
Tbsp honey
·
Place the coconut oil and beeswax in a 1 cup pyrex measuring cup set in
pan of water.
·
This will act as a double boiler.
Boil and stir to melt the wax.
·
Whisk honey into beeswax mixture; stir well.
·
Set aside to cool completely.
·
When cool, pour into small containers with lids.
·
Apply to lips as a moisturizer or on top of lipstick for extra
shine. Makes about 1½ cups.
·
You can cut the recipe in fourths.
Citrus Bliss Flavor. My favorite
is Wild Orange and Peppermint.
Clear Organic Lip Gloss Base
½ tsp
organic coconut oil
1 tsp aloe vera gel
3-5 drops vitamin E oil
Fresh Juice for Optional Color
Beets
– steam until cooked, puree in a blender, add 1-2 drops beet juice to lip gloss
base and mix.
Berries
– mash fresh or fefrosted (frozen) berries of choice. Microwave on high in 15 second increments
just until juicy. Add 1-2 drops of juice
to lip gloss base and mix.
Cocoa-I
would try adding cocoa powder to give it a brownish color.
Remember
that the color recipes will be for the small amount in the Clear Organic Lip
Gloss Base. To add to the Honey-kissed
Lip Balm, you will need to add a bunch more.

Protective Deodorant Spray, Make the Change!
My choice of a healing natural deodorant alternative is made with a fewPURE essential oils, a good alcohol free Witch Hazel in a simple 1 ounceglass spray bottle.
10 drops Frankincense, 10 drops Lavender 10 drops Lemon
Top the bottle off with Witch Hazel, a natural astrigent and soothing to the skin, blend gently. The blend actually smells amazing, controls odor but, is only slightly effective when it comes to sweat, a natural process.

Homemade Lavender Coconut Oil Salt
Scrub
Add
coconut oil, epsom salt, and essential oil to a small bowl and mix with a spoon
until well combined. Store in a container with a tight-fitting lid until ready
to use.
(Note:
make sure the bottom of the bathtub or shower is oil-free when you are done so
the next person in doesn’t get a slippery surprise.)
Now
I can get the magnesium boosting effects of Epsom salt, the moisturizing
effects of coconut oil, and the skin calming effects of Lavender all in one!
Peppermint Foot Rub For Tired Feet
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil (or any other favorite carrier oil such as
jojoba, sweet almond, or sunflower)
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint essential oil
Mix
together all ingredients, and stir well. To use, pour a small amount into your
palm, and massage into feet. The peppermint oil has a regenerating effect
and refreshes tired feet. It also has antibacterial properties that help stave
off infection. After massaging the oil into your feet, put your feet up and
relax for at least 15 minutes. Then put on thick socks and enjoy your “feel
like new” feet!
A Simple Scented Milk Bath
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole powdered
milk
- 1/2
cup cornstarch (soothes
and relieves dry, itchy skin)
- 1/2
cup baking soda (skin
softener)
- Essential oil of
your choice (I put in about 10 drops of lavender)
Directions
Combine
the powdered milk, cornstarch and baking soda in a large glass container. Put
the lid on and shake the jar until the powders are completely mixed.
Let
sit for 24 hours before using, to let the ingredients and the essential oil
completely combine. Store in a cool, dark place.
To
use, pour 1 to 2 cups of your milk bath under hot running water. Lie back
and relax!
I
made this about a week ago and finally got around to using it last night. The
minute the mixture hit the hot water, the smell of lavender was
heavenly and the water became wonderfully smooth and silky! My skin
felt SO GOOD after that bath! I’m DEFINITELY doing this again soon!
A
couple of tips:
- This is one
time when lowfat is NOT your best bet. The higher the fat content of
the milk, the more nourishing it is for you skin.
- Goat’s milk
and cow’s milk have higher amounts of fat which provides more
conditioning, but you can also use rice, soy or coconut milk (great
alternatives for vegans.)
- Also,
lactose intolerant folks don’t have to worry about bathing in milk. The
milk isn’t being drunk, so there won’t be any digestion problems.
Homemade Shaving Gel
·
What
you will need:
·
1/2
cup liquid castile soap
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup aloe vera gel (not juice)
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons vegetable glycerine
1 Tablespoon olive oil
8 drops tea tree essential oil (a natural anti-septic)
5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil / oil blend (optional) – I used Lavender
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup aloe vera gel (not juice)
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons vegetable glycerine
1 Tablespoon olive oil
8 drops tea tree essential oil (a natural anti-septic)
5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil / oil blend (optional) – I used Lavender
·
Dissolve
the salt in the warm water, and then blend all remaining ingredients together.
Put in a container with a lid. I put mine in a repurposed hand soap pump
bottle. This would also work well in a FOAMING pump bottle.
·
Homemade Shaving Cream
2/3
cup virgin coconut oil
2/3 cup shea butter
1/4 cup olive oil (you could also use almond, grapeseed or jojoba oil)
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil
2 teaspoons baking soda
2/3 cup shea butter
1/4 cup olive oil (you could also use almond, grapeseed or jojoba oil)
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil
2 teaspoons baking soda
In
a small saucepan over low heat, combine the shea butter and coconut oil,
stirring until just melted. Remove from the heat and add the olive oil
and essential oils. Stir to mix.
Transfer
to a bowl or jar and refrigerate until solid.
Remove
from the refrigerator and let soften slightly. Add the 2 teaspoons of baking
soda (baking soda helps remove oils which allows the razor to cut better and
last longer and acts as a mild exfoliant). whip using a hand beater or a
stand mixer until light and fluffy – about 2-3 minutes.
Spoon
into a jar with a lid and keep in a cool, dry place.
If
your man (or you) prefer a LIGHTER shaving lubricant…I decided to try
making a shave GEL as well. It’s not as thick as commercial shave
gels, but it provides a nice, smooth, even coating for shaving. If you have dry
skin, however, I would recommend the shave CREAM. The coconut oil makes
it much more moisturizing.
Cinnamon-Scented
Pinecones
Gather your pinecones. Lay them on a foil covered cookie sheet and
bake for 1 hour at 250 degrees. This
will kill any bugs and dry them out.
When they are cool, put them in a gallon zip-lock bag and cure them for
4-6 weeks.
MAKE YOUR OWN DEODORIZING BATH AND BODY POWDER
Use
your favorite essential oil in this recipe. Lavender, of course,
would be divine! As would rosemary, jasmine, geranium, etc. You could also add a few drops of your
favorite PERFUME to turn it into a fragrant dusting powder! So many possibilities!
- 2
cups cornstarch
- 2
cups baking soda
- 1
tablespoon cinnamon
- 10 to
15 drops essential oil of choice (I used Lavender, but Rosemary, Geranium or Wild Orange would be terrific too!)
The
baking soda and cinnamon are natural deodorizers while the cornstarch is very
absorbent.
Just
mix the 3 ingredients together in a bowl and transfer to the container of
your choice. I fashioned a paper funnel out of a piece of printer
paper to make the transfer a little easier. My container was a mason
jar (big surprise there!) with a couple of holes punched in the lid. You could
also repurpose an old baby powder container or even a parmesan cheese shaker.
Store the extra in another container to refill as needed.
If
you live in a humid climate, add about ¼ cup of uncooked rice to the
powder to keep it from clumping. The rice won’t shake out but
will keep the powder flowing smoothly.
As
you can see, this made a nice, big batch of powder! You could cut the
recipe in half if you didn’t want to make that much…or you
could DOUBLE it for making gifts!
DIY Pendant Diffuser
Materials needed:
- Terra-cotta
clay (I
bought mine on Amazon.)
- Small stamps or clay cutters (small—no more than 1
inch in diameter)
- Needle
tool (or toothpick)
- Leather
shoelaces
- 1
– 1.5 inch clay cutters (can use bottle caps,
cookie cutters, etc.)
- Rolling
pin
- Scissors
Directions:
Break
off a piece of terra cotta clay and work it with your hands until
pliable.
Use
the rolling pin to roll out the clay until it’s 1/8 inch thick.
Take
your cutting tool and press firmly into the clay to make the pendant.
Remove
the excess clay and stamp your design into the clay pendant.
Once
you have stamped the pendants, make a hole in the pendant. Make sure the hole
is big enough to fit your leather shoelace through. Allow to dry according to
the directions.
Cut
your leather laces to the desired length and lace through the hole in your
pendant. Put one drop of your preferred essential oil onto the pendant and
allow to soak in before putting on.
That’s
it! Now you can enjoy the benefits of essential oils throughout the day! If the
scent begins to fade, just add another drop to the pendant. Remember that a
little essential oil goes a long way. One drop is plenty.
Ideas for using your pendant diffuser:
- For
school-aged children who suffer from ADHD, apply Jeddy’s Blend, an essential oil blend
made especially for ADHD, to the diffuser and let them wear it to school
around their neck.
- I
personally like to apply the essential oil
blends Bliss or Zen to my pendant and wear it
around my neck when I’m feeling anxious or having a stressful day. Holding
the pendant to my nose and breathing deeply calms me down and helps me
feel more balanced.
- Try Wild Orange or Peppermint for when you need a quick
pick-me-up!
- Give Lavender a try when winding down
at night.
A few more helpful hints:
- Only
use single essential oils or essential oil blends WITHOUT carrier
oils. Carrier oils will not evaporate rapidly, and may clog the pores
of the clay.
- If
you want to change the oil on the diffuser, wait until most of the
original scent has evaporated (usually 2 or 3 days), then apply the
next one.
- When
applying the essential oil to your pendant, lay it down flat on a table
and drip one drop onto the top (front) of the clay.
- Make
sure the oil is fully absorbed into the terra cotta before using so it
won’t stain clothing.
- Besides
wearing around your neck, you can also hang them on doorknobs, lamps,
light fixtures, bedposts…even in your car.
The best thing about these little
charmers is that you can always have your favorite essential oil right with you
without having to tote around a bottle. Just grab your pendant and breathe
deeply!
Just Like Mom’s but Just for Kids!
{age
6 and older}
We all know kids learn by example.
Kids love to mimic Mom, especially when they see her doing something
new and interesting like using EOs in the home. Right? This is a
hands on teaching moment just for kids, it’s about helping them learn to choose
natural alternatives like essential oils. With their very own box of kid
friendly blends they can feel empowered just like we do!
I chose four HIGHLY DILUTED blends
to introduce to kids, giving them the opportunity to be a “mini me” of Mom (or
Dad) as the healer in the home. Think about it, what a great way to teach
your kids that someday they’ll be responsible for their health and reaching for
natural alternatives is always a wise choice.
Each 5ml roller bottle has 4 drops of PURE essential oils.
The remainder of the bottle is filled with fractionated
coconut oil.
The
blends are not toys, even highly diluted.
It will be important to teach your kids
to respect that each of their bottles are tools for wellness, their wellness!
Have fun with it and take advantage of all the teaching moments that are
exploding all around you! Occasional chaos, you know the drill
OUCH! …an
antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal blend
In a 5ml roller
bottle…
2 drops Melaleuca
This bottle
might save you a whole bunch of bandaids. Our grand kids love to race for
the bandaid box at the slightest scratch, now they can pretend they’re all
grown up by dabbing their scraped knee with a fragrant army of little healing
soldiers instead!
HEALTHY! …a
protective immunity blend
In a 5ml roller
bottle…
4
drops Shield Protective Blend
Explain that
this bottle can keep you well and guard against cold and flu bugs! Of
course, you might need to subsidize your child’s kid strength application with
your full strength one but they’ll catch on and most likely race to apply
theirs first.
HAPPY! …a
mood improving blend
In a 5ml roller
bottle…
4 drops Jeddy’s Blend
Oh, the far
reaching benefits of Jeddy’s Blend! Not only is it good
for your kids in school to help them focus and stay on task it’s wonderful at
helping cranky toddlers feel happier – like a couple of 2 yr olds I know and
love
SWEET
DREAMS! …a sleepy head blend
In a 5ml roller
bottle
I love the
fragrance of this pair, a nice calming blend to help relax at bedtime.
This combination is nice to dab under your nose too.
All Purpose
Salve from Camp Wander
1 cup organic solid coconut oil
1 cup organic olive oil
4 Tablespoons beeswax
½ teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional)
Five 4 oz glass mason jars
Put the oils that you want to the jars before
pouring in the melted mixture. Melt the coconut and olive oil and the beeswax in
a glass pyrex measuring cup (8 cup is good) over double boiler. Stir frequently. Add the vitamin E oil after the wax has
melted. When melted, pour into
jars. Stir every 20 minutes or so for 4
times to make sure that it doesn’t separate.
(Use a wooden stick to throw away).
Cover with a paper towel while cooling.
If you want to wait and add your essential oils later, just place your
jar on a cookie sheet in a warm oven for about 10 minutes or until it has
returned to a liquid state.

Dream-y
Sleep Salve ~ SLEEP Remedy From Camp Wander
Add a few drops to your water during
the day and curb your appetite, rev your metabolism or…on your feet at night to
SLEEP. Sounds weird I know, but let me explain. The EOs in this blend help
balance blood sugar and calm adrenals thus allowing the body to drift into
sleep mode when it’s time.
The Original DREAM BLEND
Add to a 10ml roller bottle and apply
liberally to the bottoms of feet and under toes before bedtime. In ten
minutes or so you’ll actually feel your body relaxing.
Add Dream Blend to
the basic All Purpose Healing Salve base recipe ~ no more spills
and you wake up with soft feet!
Add 90 drops of Dream Blend to one 4oz glass jar. I like to
use 4 oz jam jars however, you can use glass jars of your choice.
Apply Dream-y Sleep Salve liberally
to the bottom and top of both feet after you’ve climbed into bed and massage
in. You won’t to share it with the floor

Rosemary & Lavender Hair Rinse
Thicker,
Softer Hair with Rosemary, Lavender
& Apple Cider Vinegar
4
cups water (filtered if possible)
1
tsp. Borax (optional for softer hair)
3
T. Apple Cider Vinegar (I use Bragg’s)
Combine
ingredients in a glass jar, I love my 1/2 gal mason jars for this! I
also picked up two plastic condiment squirt bottles for a $1 at the
dollar store…this is what I take to the shower with me. One recipe can
give you 2 to 4 rinses depending on the length of your hair. Once or
twice a week application is all you need! The rinse will keep in the
refrigerator for up to two weeks, but more than likely you’ll use it all before
then :))
Herbal
Toothpaste
¼
cup bentonite clay
2
tsp naturally extracted baking soda
1 ½
tsp unrefined sea salt
¼
tsp essential oil (abt 20 drops)
2 ½
tsp unrefined stevia powder, or more to taste (optional)
¼
cup coconut oil (or more until it reaches the texture you desire)
Cinnamon,
peppermint, spearmint, anise, fennel, sweet orange and clove are
recommended. Sweet orange is best for
toddlers who have not yet learned to spit after brushing. The number of drops will vary based on the
strength of the essential oil. Clove is
very antiseptic but only a few drops should be used in combination with another
oil due to the potential for gum
irritation.
